SWINTON overcame OLDHAM to pick up two vital points in the derby clash at Heywood Road.

It was a very even opening between two sides in desperate need of a victory, but it was the home side that eventually broke the deadlock 20 minutes into the game when Rhodri Lloyd scored.

Chris Hankinson's try on the stroke of half-time extended the home side's advantage and Chris Atkin slotted his 250th conversion in Lions' colours to give Swinton a 12-0 lead at the break.

Jack Murphy breached the Roughyeds defence again midway through the second period, after Atkin had earlier knocked over a penalty. Hankinson's second try sealed the victory with 10 minutes remaining, but there was still time for Richard Lepori to get a consolation score for the visitors. …
