EDMONTON. x-06s. New research calls into question the notion that Tyrannosaurus rex and its closest relatives were coated in feathers. An international team of researchers, including University of Alberta paleontologists, studied skin samples that suggest the massive carnivorous lizards were actually covered in scales. Scott Persons, who contributed to the paper, says it likely has to with how hard it would have been for the large creatures to stay cool in a tropical climate.
