Defiant Poem Gets Pride of Place in Mall

SHOPPERS have been touched by a giant poster of Tony Walsh's emotional poem This Is The Place, now gracing a wall at Manchester's Arndale Centre.

At 10m long, it carries the performance poet's ode to Manchester - which has come to symbolise the city's defiance in the wake of the Arena bomb.

Shoppers have already been stopping to take photographs of the poster - which follows the design created for a page in the M.E.N. - and others have been taking time to read it.

Mr Walsh, who performs as 'Longfella', gained international attention after reciting his work at Albert Square the day after the attack.

He has visited the mall to see the poster and talked to people passing it. A spokesman for the Arndale said: "As expected, people were interested to hear about the words to the poem and its meaning, its impact on the city and around the world over the last few weeks and Tony's recent experiences considering the poem has been so integral to all the positive actions following the Arena attack. …
