STRETFORD and Urmston was retained for Labour after sitting MP Kate Green kept hold of her seat.

Ms Green, who was predicted to comfortably win, ended up consolidating her position - and paid tribute to those who have helped in dealing with the Manchester Arena attack.

The Labour MP finished with 33,519 votes, placing her ahead of nearest rival the Conservatives Lisa Cooke, who polled 13,814 votes.

Kate Green was first elected to the seat in 2010 and has held the position ever since.

She previously represented the Davyhulme West ward on Trafford council for four years.

Ukip's Andrew Beaumont finished in third place with 1,094 votes and the Liberal Democracts, who dropped to fifth place in 2010, were represented by Anna Fryer who received votes 1,001. …
