A VIOLENT thug who attacked another pubgoer has failed in a bid to cut his sentence.

Drew Michael Barry, 32, from Rochdale, was jailed for five years and four months at Manchester Crown Court in November last year after he caught his victim off guard with a vicious sucker punch.

Barry admitted wounding with intent after leaving his victim with fractures to his skull and cheekbone in a 'sustained and violent assault'.

The man was attacked without warning as he left the Brown Cow pub in Rochdale last August.

He and Barry had known each other for most of their lives, Judge Peter Collier QC told London's Appeal Court. "There had been issues in the past but, more recently, they were always polite to each other," he added.
