Carrick Says City Success Has Added Derby Edge

THE derby has extra edge since City became a Premier League power.

That is the view of Michael Carrick ahead of the historic meeting between the Reds and Blues in the US on July 20.

After ruling the roost in the battle for local bragging rights for years, United have seen the Blues win two Premier League titles in the last five seasons.

City finished above the Reds again last season and Carrick says the pressure to win has grown.

He said: "I think there is pressure anyway, whatever game you play for this club.

"There is always pressure and expectation but, of course, the games against City, because of them becoming more of a threat and more competitive in recent times, bring an extra edge and an extra feeling to the game."

Carrick joined United from Tottenham in 2006 and says he recognised the importance of the game immediately. …
