TELEVISION is never so cruel as when a major character is ruthlessly killed off. Fans of this Victorian period drama took to social media in their droves at the end of the last series as Bennet Drake (Jerome Flynn) met a grisly end.

Shell-shocked, emotions in tatters, viewers complained of broken hearts as the craggyfaced detective had his throat ripped out by murderous cannibal Nathaniel.

It was sad and downright gory as Bennet choked out the words: "No more fighting".

So now it will come as no surprise that this fifth and final series will see our remaining heroes fighting for justice.
