Police Hunt Man after Sex Assault in Woodland

POLICE are appealing for information after a woman was sexually assaulted in woodland.

The victim, who is in her 20s, was walking in Alkrington Woods, near the entrance of Manchester Old Road, in Middleton.

A man, who had covered his face with a scarf, grabbed her from behind and sexually assaulted her. The terrified woman managed to fight him off and run away.

The attack took place between 8pm and 9pm last Wednesday.

The man was white, in his mid-20s, skinny and about 5ft 7in. He wore a black scarf over his mouth and nose, a black top with the hood up, black tracksuit bottoms and black trainers. Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. Patrols have been stepped up to reassure residents.

The woman is being supported by specially-trained officers.

Det Cons Charlotte Humphreys, from GMP's Middleton Borough, said: "This would have been a frightening attack and the victim has been extremely brave reporting it to police. …
