A FORMER Grenadier Guard, a promising boxer and a singing teacher are among the band of new police recruits to bolster the thin blue line.

Robert Frogatt, from Rochdale, toured Afghanistan when he was a Grenadier and took part in Trooping the Colour and the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton as part of his ceremonial duties.

The former Hopwood Hall College student had previously served as a PCSO on the beat in Broughton, Salford, before becoming a regular bobby for GMP.

He said: "I left the Army after my wife discovered she was pregnant with our first child and I'd found out that the recruitment process to become a police officer had opened. For me, the end goal had always been to become a police officer, so it was great."

Former amateur boxer Mohammad Hussain, 22, from Oldham, who once represented England, served as a special constable for 16 months before landing a job as a regular. …
