Real Chief Says Madrid Have Ended Their Chase of De Gea

REAL Madrid president Florentino Perez has indicated the club will not attempt to sign United goalkeeper David de Gea in the summer.

M.E.N. Sport revealed last month the Reds were confident De Gea would stay - and reports in Spain recently suggested Madrid would not try to buy the 26-year-old.

"We haven't spoken to De Gea," Perez said following his re-election as Real Madrid president yesterday.

"Two years ago we had an issue and then the appropriate circumstances didn't arise.

"The players are very fond of Keylor (Navas - the current keeper) and also the coach. I like Keylor Navas. Why he wanted Gea before? Because Zinedine Zidane did not know him [Navas]."

Real failed to sign De Gea on deadline day in 2015 and Navas - who almost joined United in a swap deal - started in their successive Champions League final victories over Atletico Madrid and Juventus. …
