Oldham in a Battle to Avoid Drop after Defeat

DEFEAT for Oldham at home to Dewsbury has intensified the fight for Championship survival, with both Roughyeds and Swinton suffering losses in their rare midweek fixtures.

The Rams' visit to Bower Fold had been rescheduled from earlier in the season when the match was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch, but on one of the hottest nights of the year, the visitors secured a late comeback victory, moving level on points with the Lions and just one behind their opponents.

With Bradford still in negative territory after their 12-point deduction for going into administration, the Bulls appear to be all but relegated, leaving just one other spot at risk.

Dewsbury remain in that position because of points difference, but are now breathing heavily down the necks of the two north west sides ahead of them.

Danny Grimshaw opened the scoring for Oldham inside the first five minutes and though the Rams hit back, a Scott Leatherbarrow try gave the home side a 12-6 lead at the break. …
