Gomes Is Spending His Summer Fighting for Fitness

ANGEL Gomes made history on the final day of United's 2016/17 domestic campaign, but he has his eye on bigger things next season.

And while the majority of his teammates have scattered across the globe on holiday, Gomes has given himself a head start on pre-season training by taking up boxing.

Born in London but raised in Salford, Gomes has been having training sessions with retired boxer Jamie Moore in his gym.

Moore, a former European lightmiddleweight champion, has been working with the youngster in Salford to help him build his fitness.

Posting to twitter after meeting the 16-year-old Gomes, Moore wrote: "Great to have Angel Gomes in the gym this week, starting his pre-season early to get a head start. Great work ethic."

Gomes became the first player born since 2000 to play in the Premier League when he came on as a substitute for Wayne Rooney against Crystal Palace, days before United won the Europa League by beating Ajax in Stockholm. …
