HEROIC customers sprang into action when they saw a knifeman hold up a female shop worker in a terrifying robbery.

They wrestled him to the floor and disarmed the thug in the drama at Bargain Booze, on Councillor Lane, Cheadle. One, Liam Roof, intervened after another customer had confronted the raider.

A masked man had brandished a knife and held it against the shop assistant and demanded cash and booze. Liam, 19, said: "I was outside and he walked right past me into the shop. I could tell he was up to no good as he was loitering on the corner.

"The other guy started to get the knife off him and I thought I'm going to have to get stuck in. It was just instinct and an instant reaction.

"I ran at him to back up the other lad and there was a big scuffle, I had to give him an elbow.

"Then we held him there while he tried to get up. …
