HEALTH chiefs have warned that a new deadly strain of MDMA can cause seizures, heart problems and even death.

One man has died and 10 others are in hospital after taking the drug over the weekend.

A few samples of the crystal-type drug are being analysed.

Experts are still unclear whether it is a pure MDMA or mixed with other drugs or contaminants.

But Professor Matthew Makin, the medical director for the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, says all evidence points to it being extremely dangerous.

Despite being given the name 'pink champagne', the drug does not have one particular colour which makes it identifiable.

Prof Makin said: "We don't know what it is, so if you're buying it, you certainly don't know what it is.

"You're taking your life in your hands. Anything that is not regulated and is illegal, you don't know what's in it. …
