Civil servant professionals ratify deal

TORONTO - Professionals in the Ontario civil service have ratified a four-year extension of their contract, as the government secures labour peace in another key area ahead of next year's election.

Members of the Association of Management, Administrative and Professional Crown Employees of Ontario voted 94 per cent in favour of approving their deal.

It gives them 7.5 per cent in raises over the four years, which is the same wage deal ratified by public servants represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union.

Union leaders have marvelled that the offers come with no concession demands.

The Liberal government has also secured deals to extend the contracts of teachers and education workers past the 2018 election, which avoids possibly contentious bargaining ahead of the vote. …
