Sentencing arguments heard in child porn case

SASKATOON - A Saskatoon man whose child pornography collection was described by a police corporal as the "most depraved" the investigator has ever seen was back in court Thursday for his sentencing hearing.

Court heard last week that Philip Michael Chicoine spent $23,000 on child pornography, most of which went to the Philippines.

Court was told he directed and watched livestreamed abuse of children in the Philippines as well as in Romania. The victims ranged in age from 10 months to 14 years. The majority were between four and 12.

Chicoine pleaded guilty to 40 child pornography-related charges earlier this year.

On Thursday, defence lawyer Val Harvey said Chicoine, 27, has been alone a lot of his life, and has been ostracized at school and work.

She said his father called him a good son in a close family and said nobody understands how he went down this road. …
