A suspect has been arrested in a case where police say a Winnipeg mother had to fight off a man who tried to abduct her four-year-old daughter.

Police over the weekend asked for the public's help in locating 26-year-old Ruben Kyle Mawakeesick.

A warrant was issued for his arrest in connection with the alleged abduction that occurred late last month.

Police say help from the public led them to a home Sunday afternoon, where they allege Mawakeesick resisted arrest and assaulted two officers. (The Canadian Press)



A spokesman for the U-S National Transportation Safety Board says six people who died when a small plane fell apart in the sky over Wisconsin were on their way to Winnipeg.

Eric Weiss says the Cessna 421 left from Waukegan, Illinois, and crashed early Saturday.

Weiss says investigators are still trying to determine what type of weather the plane encountered and whether it caused the crash.

The Price County Sheriff's Office has said the group were headed to Canada for a fishing trip. (AP)



An 11-year-old boy in Winnipeg suffered severe injuries to his hand when police say a homemade incendiary device exploded.

Police say it happened late in the evening on Canada Day and that the boy was playing with the device at the time.

A firearm was located inside the home and was seized.

A 41-year-old man was arrested and faces charges of unauthorized possession of a firearm and breach of duty related to explosives. …
