Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in Ireland for his first stop on a week-long European visit, culminating in a G-20 meeting in Hamburg, Germany.

Trudeau is in Dublin to discuss the Canada-E-U trade deal with Ireland's new prime minister.

Trade between Canada and Ireland was about 2.4-billion dollars last year, but both countries desperately want the agreement to work -- Canada as a hedge against U-S protectionism, and Ireland as a hedge against an uncertain post-Brexit future.(2)



Lawyers will make their closing arguments today in the R-C-M-P's Labour Code trial in connection with a June 2014 shooting rampage in Moncton, New Brunswick.

The national police force faces four charges stemming from the shootings that left three officers dead and two injured.

The R-C-M-P is accused of failing to provide members and supervisors with the appropriate information, instruction, equipment and training in an active-shooter event.

Carbine rifles were not available to general duty officers during Justin Bourque's rampage, and numerous witnesses have testified the weapons could have made a difference.(2)



Marine mammal experts have released their initial findings after hauling three of the six North Atlantic right whales found dead last month in Canada's eastern waters to a shore in Norway, P-E-I for post-mortem examinations.

The Marine Animal Response Society says preliminary observations by a team of more than 40 people suggest that two of the endangered animals suffered blunt trauma, but it's too early to rule out other underlying problems.

A third whale suffered from "chronic entanglement," and all carcasses were in an advanced state of decomposition. …
