COACH Shaun Wane will not be travelling with his side when Wigan head to the south of France this weekend.

The Warriors take on Catalans Dragons in Perpignan on Saturday afternoon, but the 52-year-old is staying behind to have surgery on a troublesome hip.

It is expected that Wane will still be responsible for picking the team to face the Dragons, but assistant coach John Winder will take control during the match, supported by Scotland coach Steve McCormack and Matty Peet.

Wane attributes the requirement for surgery to his playing career as a forward for Wigan, but expects to go under the knife on Saturday morning, leaving him able to watch the game - which kicks off at 5pm - and communicate with his coaching staff throughout.

"I'm not there on Saturday, I need an operation," the head coach explained. …
