Raiders Attack Cash Van Driver with Knife

A CASH-IN-TRANSIT driver was attacked with a crowbar and a knife during a terrifying street robbery.

The G4S security officer was set upon outside Barclays bank on Market Street, in Hyde town centre, at around 11am yesterday.

Offenders then rammed the van with a homemade battering ram, before running off with the cash box.

The money container was found abandoned nearby following the robbery.

Head of operational risk for G4S Cash Solutions UK, Gareth Skinner, said the security guard did not suffer serious injuries, but was left shaken by the attack. He said: "On Thursday, one of our cash crews was the victim of a brazen attack during a routine service on Market Street, Hyde, near Manchester.

"Fortunately, our colleague has not suffered any serious injuries but has understandably been shaken by the attack.

"We are working closely with Greater Manchester Police and I would urge anyone who may have been nearby and seen this attack to get in touch with the police or dial 101 so that those behind it can be brought to justice. …
