FLIN FLON, Man. - An increase in vandalism has prompted city council in Flin Flon, Man., to institute a curfew for young people.

A new bylaw passed this week says children under the age of 16 are banned from public spaces after 10:30 p.m. from Sunday to Thursday and after midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

The curfew lasts until 6 a.m. the next day.

Flin Flon Mayor Cal Huntley says it was decided a curfew would be a tool to help the RCMP with what the community has identified as a concern.

If police find children to be in violation of the curfew, they're taken home or to a safe space.

A first offence could cost an administrative penalty of $100, and it increases another $100 for every subsequent incident, but parents or guardians are only fined if the violation happened because of neglect. …
