I read with frustration the July 2 Forum commentary by Robert Bryce ("The Delusion of 100 Percent Renewables"). Mr. Bryce focuses on a newly published study from the National Academy of Sciences that says reaching 100 percent renewable energy in the U.S. by 2050 may not be realistic. He fails to mention, however, that the study's authors clearly state that at least 80 percent renewable power can be reached by 2050 without unreasonable costs. And this is likely a conservative estimate.

Out of numerous well-funded energy analyses, including by the International Energy Agency, it was a study by Greenpeace that most accurately predicted the drastic growth and lowered costs of renewables - a study worked on by an individual Mr. Bryce calls a member of the "who's who of all-renewable cultists," actor Mark Ruffalo. …
