TAIPEI, Taiwan - "What's the Time CafZ" is a Chiayi coffeeshop manned by senior citizens who have dementia. Customers are invariably delighted by the cafZ, even though the staff sometimes bring the wrong order.

In cooperation with President Chain Store Corp., a Catholic charity brought the operation to a 7-Eleven location in Chiayi, using the convenience store's equipment.

The cafe, which launched three weeks ago, is open only on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Stop by and you'll see elderly "interns" in neatly pressed 7-Eleven uniforms, brightly greeting customers, helping to meet their coffee orders and presenting them with a receipt.

All of it takes practice, and folks are on the sidelines helping the seniors rehearse their greetings and identify which keys to press on the register. …
