Author Roald Dahl is known for many things, including his books the BFG, Fantastic Mr Fox, James and the Giant Peach, Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. His work continues to be popular nearly 30 years after his death.

More than 250 million copies of his titles have been sold so far and a musical version of Matilda is currently running in London's West End.

But what's less known is that this property in a leafy suburb of London was one of this favourite childhood retreats, perhaps even more so than the shed where he did most of his writing in later life.

The house, which was built in 1931 and is for sale at £825,000, is in Bexley where the Dahl family lived during WWII until they were bombed out of their home during an air-raid. …
