A LITTLE more than six weeks on, Manchester is still remembering.

Time may have elapsed since the atrocity of May 22 - but emotions here are still so close to the surface.

To the strains of a Halle string quartet, families of the victims and those on the frontline of the aftermath gathered at Manchester town hall for a calm ceremony of reflection.

Voices cracking, a police officer, a nurse, a taxi driver, a tattoo artist, a town hall official and a member of the city's youth council all spoke of their shock on the day itself, of their pride at being able to help and their thoughts on where we go from here.

In the midst of it, Ariana Grande, the pop star who - in the words of council leader Sir Richard Leese - 'brought comfort to thousands' in the wake of the attack, was made Manchester's first ever honorary citizen. …
