WINNIPEG. x-14s. A resort town on Lake Winnipeg is worried about the impact of potentially loosened environmental restrictions on the treatment of sewage in neighbouring Winnipeg. Current rules mandate a hard cap on the level of ammonia that can be discharged daily from the city's North End Wastewater Pollution Control Centre, which is facing millions of dollars in upgrades. Winnipeg finance committee chairman Scott Gillingham says if the province allowed for a rolling monthly average, it could save Winnipeg taxpayers some big dollars.
