SERIES PREVIEW: CARDINALS VS. CUBS

SCOUTING REPORT * The Cardinals will play their season opener at home for the first time since 2011. And they'll be working on a five-game losing streak, having lost to San Diego in 2011, Pittsburgh in 2009, Colorado in 2008, New York in 2007 and Milwaukee in 2006, meaning they never have won a season opener at Busch Stadium III, which opened in 2006.

The last time the Cardinals won a season opener at home was in 2003 when Scott Rolen's two-run homer sparked a six-run eighth inning in an 11-9 win over Montreal. The last time the Cubs opened the season in St. Louis was in 2000 at Busch II when the Cardinals won 7-1 with Craig Paquette, Shawon Dunston and Eric Davis all homering.

The last time the Cubs beat the Cardinals in a season opener came in 1971 when three Hall of Famers were involved. …
