JOSE Mourinho has revealed Manchester United pulled out of a deal to sign Alvaro Morata because they failed to agree a transfer fee with Real Madrid.

United worked on deals to sign Morata and Romelu Lukaku simultaneously, and senior club sources insist the former Everton striker was their 'principal target' up front.

M.E.N. Sport wrote earlier this month that Mourinho was concerned Madrid were dragging out negotiations with United in order to eventually offer Morata a new contract and portray a possible renewal as a coup. United could face Morata when they play Real in their fourth friendly in Santa Clara on July 23.
