(BC-Wildfires) (Audio: 134)

The B-C Wildfire Service says crews are bracing for extreme and aggressive conditions over the weekend.

Authorities are warning wind gusts reaching 70-kilometres-per-hour could whip up the flames in some fire areas.

About 170 wildfires are burning across the province's central and southern Interior, including three around Williams Lake, where 11-thousand people are on standby to leave their homes.

The B-C government declared a province-wide state of emergency a week ago. (19)

(Winnipeg-Dead-Infants)

A Winnipeg woman has been sentenced to more than eight years for hiding the remains of six infants in a rented storage locker.

Forty-three-year-old Andrea Giesbrecht (GEEZ'-breckt) had faced six charges relating to the concealment of the bodies.

The trial heard Giesbrecht put the remains in plastic bags and containers inside a U-haul storage locker.

They were discovered by workers who opened the locker in October 2014 after Giesbrecht fell behind on her payments. (19)

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is reiterating his sympathy for the families of the alleged victims of Omar Khadr.

But, unlike former prime minister Stephen Harper, he says he's not contacted them directly and he tersely refused to comment on the fact Harper did.

The former Conservative P-M is said to have called the widow of an American soldier Khadr is accused of killing in Afghanistan.

Reports say he expressed his disapproval of the Liberal government giving Khadr an apology and a reported 10.5-million-dollar settlement. (19)

The prime minister was pushing the benefits of NAFTA at the annual meeting of American governors in Providence, Rhode Island.
