Clarksville's Luna, a Versatile Infielder, Commits to Vols

CLARKSVILLE - Clarksville High baseball star Skyler Luna is coming off a season in which he was named the District 10-AAA MVP, The Leaf-Chronicle All Area Baseball Player of the Year and a Mr. Baseball finalist.

Luna's latest news has more to do with his future as he will be heading east to Knoxville after committing to play baseball at Tennessee.

Luna, 5-foot-10, 160 pounds, was ranked No. 18 in Tennessee by MaxPreps.com after helping guide Clarksville to the District 10-AAA regular season and tournament championships this past spring.

"Some of the Tennessee coaches came into town the weekend of the (travel ball) Clarksville Orioles tournament (in mid-June) and came to our Clarksville High field," Clarksville coach Brian Hetland said. "They were actually there to see some other kids. But I introduced myself and told him about Skyler Luna and (former Northeast High standout) Christian Scott and that these guys are getting ready to take batting practice and play."

Hetland said the Tennessee coaches were already familiar with Luna and Scott and had a chance to watch both during the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association showcase. …
