Rmu Might Be Looking for a Venue PPG Paints Conflicts Could Force Men's Team to Seek Alternatives

The Robert Morris men's basketball team was scheduled to play its entire 2017-18 home schedule at PPG Paints Arena while its future home - UPMC Events Center - is under construction. But Sidney Crosby, Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson and others might change the Colonials' plans.

Robert Morris athletic director Craig Coleman is not optimistic he will be able to schedule all of the Colonials' home games next season at PPG Paints Arena. The school initially planned to relocate the men's basketball team to the venue after announcing intentions to knock down its old arena, Sewall Center, and build a new one. The school has to work around 41 Penguins games and a slew of concerts slated for PPG Paints Arena, and is working with the Northeast Conference and AEG Facilities to see how many games are feasible.

"The Penguins have a lot of nationally televised games next year," Coleman said. "We're trying to work our schedule around theirs. The Northeast Conference is working on our schedule now. We've given them dates that we can use the arena. I don't think we're going to get all of our games in there, but we'll get a good number of the games in there, hopefully a majority of the games in there. And we're still trying to decide and looking into options for if there are dates we can't get into the arena, if there's some other place we can play."

Messages left for AEG Facilities, which manages PPG Paints Arena, went unreturned.

Once the Northeast Conference sends Robert Morris its schedule, the school will sign individual contracts with AEG for each game, Coleman said. For the remaining games, the Colonials will consider every local collegiate arena, from the junior college to the Division I level, that can seat more than 1,000 people.

The Colonials have a longstanding relationship with PPG Paints Arena - they played two games there in the 2016-17 season - and Coleman said he is confident it will be able to accommodate as many games as possible. …
