Port Authority: Bus That Crashed in Park Was Mechanically Sound

A Port Authority investigation has found no mechanical problems with a bus that hopped a curb in Brookline and ended up impaled on a cannon after driving through the neighborhood's war memorial park July 8.

"The bus has been examined thoroughly. . There's been nothing found mechanically with the bus that caused the accident," David Donahoe, the authority's acting CEO, said Thursday.

Mr. Donahoe said the agency is continuing to review surveillance video from the area to see whether it sheds any light on the incident. A passenger on the bus said it appeared the driver couldn't move the steering wheel and lost control when she jumped on the brakes to try to stop the bus.

The driver, who hasn't been identified, remains on paid leave while the investigation continues. …
