ST. LOUIS > Taxi driver kills passenger * A taxi driver who fatally shot a passenger in his cab on Interstate 70 in St. Louis County early Sunday morning told police he fired in self-defense.

St. Louis County Police were called to the shooting scene, west of Jennings Station Road, about 1 a.m. and found a 48-year-old man dead in the back seat of a taxi minivan. The man was pronounced dead by paramedics from Northeast Ambulance and Fire Protection District.

The taxi driver, 70, was still at the scene and was taken into custody, police said. Police said the driver told them an altercation broke out between him and the passenger as they were westbound on Interstate 70.

The taxi driver told police he feared for his life and shot the victim in self-defense. The driver is cooperating with investigators, according to police. …
