AN armed siege which lasted almost 26 hours until officers stormed a house will be investigated by the police's internal standards branch.

A man locked himself inside a property on Pemberton Way, Shaw, with a woman and two children at around 3.15am on Tuesday.

The two young boys, aged one and six, were brought to safety through a smashed window but the couple remained inside for a further 23 hours. The incident came to an end when armed officers entered the property shortly before 5am yesterday.

Police have confirmed the mum and children have been reunited and are receiving care from specialist officers.

The one-year-old boy received a large cut to the back of his head, which required treatment but is not believed to be serious.

It has since been revealed GMP visited the house just two hours before the stand-off began.

Police said they visited the address in the hours prior to the hostage situation to reports of a separate incident.

It was resolved when a man left the property, but neighbours have said he was seen returning some time later. …
