NAT097 - (Non-Binary-Birth-Certificate) ST. JOHN'S, N.L. x-22s. A Newfoundland and Labrador court will hear the case of a transgender activist vying for a non-binary birth certificate on November 22nd. Gemma (JEM'-ah) Hickey appeared in the province's Supreme Court in St. John's today to set a date for arguments in the case petitioning the government to recognize genders other than male and female on such documents. Hickey says there are only two options on the change-of-sex designation form and that is discriminatory. ("..the other.") (SOURCE: The Canadian Press)

TAG: Hickey applied for a non-binary birth certificate in April and is believed to be the first in Canada to do so.
