Gundogan Found Latest Injury Woe 'Tough' to Overcome

ILKAY Gundogan is refusing to name a date for his comeback from injury after admitting it had been "mentally tough" to suffer his third major problem in four years.

Gundogan had hoped to return to action in the Manchester derby in Houston earlier this month, but has not been involved in any of City's US tour matches.

The German tore cruciate knee ligaments in December to bring an end to a promising start to his City career, and pave the way for the return of Yaya Toure.

That followed a dislocated kneecap which forced him to miss Euro 2016 and the start of his first Blues campaign, and a back problem that required surgery and saw him out for nearly a year from 2013.

Gundogan said that such difficulties take their toll: "It is heavy mentally to accept that," he told BBC Sport. …
