BELLE Vue strengthened their hold on the Premiership's top spot last night with an emphatic 59-31 win over Poole.

The Aces were heavily fancied at the National Speedway Stadium but the Volvo Cars Pirates opened with valiant efforts to negate an early hammering.

Progress for the visitors was quickly hampered, however, when a 5-1 in Heat 5 courtesy of the dynamic Aussie duo Max Fricke and Rohan Tungate set the wheels in motion for Belle Vue.

With the catalyst released there was little Poole could do to recover, and a hard move by Kenneth Bjerre to prevent a tactical sweep from Jack Holder dissolved any last-gasp attempts by the visitors.
