Former ESU Football Player, Wife Found Shot

A former Emporia State University football player died in an apparent homicide-suicide Monday in Olathe.

Olathe police responded to a medical call at 1:22 p.m. Monday in the 24200 block of West 109th Terrace. They located an adult male and an adult female, later identified as Philip and Amy Mabion, both 36 years old, Olathe police Sgt. Logan Bonney said.

Amy Mabion was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound. Philip Mabion was transported to an area hospital from an apparent gunshot wound. He was later pronounced dead by medical staff, Bonney said.

Authorities aren't disclosing who they believe is responsible. Bonney said they haven't responded to any other incidents at the residence in the past year. …
