Will Geary Motivated for Strong Finish to K-State Football Career

MANHATTAN -- The past two years have taken an emotional toll on Will Geary as he dealt with the death of his father and both of his grandfathers.

Geary, a two-time All-Big 12 defensive tackle at Kansas State, may have hit a wall last spring when he took time away from spring football practice and his classroom work to deal with some personal issues. The football field has been his source of solace, and after that time away from the game he is back on track and ready to attack his senior season with the Wildcats.

"I can't really say much, but I've just been working hard on getting ready for my senior campaign," Geary said Thursday at K-State media day. "I'm ready to get it going.

"Yeah, it's been tough, but I have a good family and a good family here at K-State that has kept me going and been very supportive of me. These are my brothers on this team and other guys have lost people in their family and we're all there for each other."

K-State coach Bill Snyder said he is pleased with the progress Geary has made.

"His effort has been good," Snyder said. "He's doing everything the way he's supposed to. He's committed to trying to improve himself in his play. I want him to get back into a leadership role and I think in time he will, but he has to take care of Will first and get Will right. He's on the right path. I've been pleased with him so far."

Geary cut the shoulder-length hair and trimmed the bushy beard that made him look so menacing, but at 6-foot and 306 pounds he remains a physical force in the middle of the K-State defensive line.

"We just had our first day of pads today, so that was nice," he said. "It was good to get the pads on and get some hitting in.

"I'm excited for our defense. Everybody talks about the offense and how many returners we have there and how they are looking pretty good, but we're feeling pretty good about our defense going up against them. …
