Taiwan Is Telling China to Quit Playing Politics after More Nationals Were Deported to China

TAIPEI/JAKARTA - The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) lodged a stern protest with Beijing on Thursday after Indonesian authorities deported 22 Taiwanese nationals along with 121 mainland Chinese scammers to China.

MAC called for Beijing to set aside political objectives and work with Taiwanese law enforcement. It also requested that the Chinese government allow families of the 22 Taiwanese now detained in China to visit them there.

Separately, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed "deep regret" over Indonesia's deportation of the suspects.

The ministry expressed "serious concern" over the incident and called on Indonesian authorities to ensure that Taiwanese citizens' rights were protected, according to the Central News Agency.

Assisted by the Jakarta police, the Malaysia's Directorate General of Immigration deported the 143 on Thursday over their alleged involvement in a cyber-fraud syndicate that reportedly made some 6 trillion rupiah (US$450 million) targeting wealthy people in China. …
