Peters Township Grad Takes on 'Masterchef' Challenge

Article excerpt

Holy cannoli, it was quite a week for Caitlin Jones on "MasterChef."

Ms. Jones, a New York City-based dancer who graduated from Peters Township High School and Carnegie Mellon University, was appointed the dreaded "captain" role in a team challenge.

"She is going to dominate that Blue team," said chef/host Gordon Ramsay.

After a few false starts (don't leave skin on halibut and don't serve it with ricotta cheese, homemade, or not), the Blue team got its act together and impressed a dining room full of local food purveyors.

That gave them all immunity, and off they marched to watch a disaster of a challenge among the Red team members. Chef Christina Tosi charged each with making six cannoli of two different flavors.

In general, it wasn't pretty and cheftestant (Brien O'Brien) got the boot.

After she and two other female teammates performed a routine by star choreographer Sonya Tayeh, they awaited judgment from Mr. Karmiryan.

"And then comes the part where my stomach sinks and I have to make a decision, right?" he said, eliminating Ms. Ravi, and then adding, "I want you to be so, so proud of yourself."

Previously, Ms. Ravi had said she hopes to spend the next year concentrating on her dance in New York City while taking a break from her grad school studies.
