SHUFFLE'S OFF THIS MORTAL COIL APPLE has sent two of its most famous products to the cemetery - yes, the iPod Shuffle and the iPod Nano are no more.

Both were launched back in 2005 as Apple expanded its iPod range and essentially took over the business of selling music.

The iPod Touch is now the only iPod available from Apple, and it hasn't been updated for more than two years. It's now some seven years since sales of the iPhone, which obviously does everything an iPod can and more, overtook sales of the iPod and the writing's been on the wall for a while.

But it's worth reflecting on the fact that at one time the supremacy of the iPod as a portable music player was insurmountable - everybody had one. Some people (me) had more than one.
