Shop Worker Is Doused in Fuel by Man Wielding Axe

AN AXE-WIELDING masked man poured petrol on a supermarket worker before threatening to set fire to him.

The suspect dowsed the staff member with fuel and also spread it across the floor after he entered the Wigan Asda store on Friday, July 28.

Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to following the terrifying incident at the Leigh supermarket on Windermere Road.

The brave shop worker chased the axe-man out of the store, and the offender was seen running away in the direction of Leigh Road.

The victim was not injured in the incident, which happened at about 11pm.

The suspect is described as 5ft 8ins tall and of slim build. He was wearing blue jeans, trainers, a grey hoody and a black mask to conceal his face.

Det Con Chris Waddicar of GMP's Wigan team, said: "This was a brazen attack and the staff member showed incredible bravery in standing up to the offender. …
