Young man sentenced for fatal shooting

REGINA - A sentence has finally been handed down in a fatal shooting at a 2013 Halloween party in Regina.

Elijah Noname, 25, was sentenced Thursday to 12 years in the death of Nolen Tanner, 18.

With credit for time already served, Noname will spend the next seven years in prison.

He previously testified he brought a pistol to the party, but said he did not intend to kill anyone that night.

Lana Sheepskin, whose daughter dated Tanner, told court the young man was the father of a little boy and was not the type to go looking for trouble.

Noname was originally charged with second-degree murder but a jury found him guilty earlier this year of manslaughter.

He told court the shooting was unintentional.

"I'm very sorry for what happened. I hope me going to jail gives the family peace. …
