Topeka High School Grad Dies in Accident in Idaho

Katherine "Katie" Rose Malone, who grew up in Topeka, died when she was struck by a logging truck while jogging Thursday morning near the city of Priest River in northern Idaho.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Topeka's First Presbyterian Church for Malone, 36, of Nashville, Tenn., according to obituary information provided to The Capital-Journal. Survivors include her parents, Topekans James W. and Jennie Adams Rose; her former husband, Patrick Malone; and her 5-year-old daughter, Rosie Malone.

Katie Malone died while on a run as she and her daughter vacationed with relatives at the Rose family cabin on the Pend Orielle River, a tributary of the Columbia River.

The Idaho State Police reported Jesse R. Flory, 22, was driving a Kenworth tractor truck pulling a fully loaded trailer and negotiating a left-hand curve when he encountered a woman jogging in the roadway. …
