Man gets mandatory life in fatal Turtle Creek shooting

A man who killed another to keep him from linking him to a shooting earlier that day will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Amirae Benton, 19, received the mandatory penalty of life without parole from Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Anthony M. Mariani after a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder in April.

His co-defendant, Lucas Guggenheimer, was found guilty in a separate trial of third-degree murder and was ordered to serve 24 to 48 years in prison.

They were convicted of killing Justin Granda, 28, of Mount Oliver on Oct. 11, 2015, in Pittsburgh's Arlington neighborhood.

The three of them, earlier in the evening, had gone to a house in Turtle Creek to buy marijuana. But while there, prosecutors said Guggenheimer pulled a gun to rob the men who lived there. …
