POLICE have released CCTV images after armed robbers stole cash from two McColls newsagents.

The first robbery took place at a store on Newton Road, in Lowton, Wigan on Sunday, July 30.

Two men entered the shop carrying an axe at around 3.30pm.

One man jumped over the counter while the second went behind the till and threatened the shop assistant.

They both demanded the woman open the till and threatened her with an axe, before using it to force open the cash register.

Later the same day, at around 10.50pm, police were called to another armed robbery at a McColls shop, on Atherton Road, in Hindley.

Two men jumped over the store counter and threatened the shop assistant with a knife.

The terrified shop worker opened the cash register and the two men ran off with the till's contents. …
