Mets Trade Walker to Brewers

Article excerpt

The Milwaukee Brewers decided to do something to help solve their lack of offense at second base. They acquired veteran switch-hitter Neil Walker from the Mets Saturday according to a release on the teams official Twitter account.

Walker had been replaced by Jose Reyes in the lineup by New York before the start of the Mets-Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park.

The Brewers gave up a player to be named later to pick up Walker, a Pine-Richland graduate and one-time first-round pick of the Pirates.

The Brewers are 60-59 and in third place in the National League Central, two games behind the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals. But they are just 10-18 since the All-Star break.

Milwaukee's second-base contingent, which consists primarily of Jonathan Villar and Eric Sogard, ranks last in the league with a .672 OPS.

Walker, 31, hit .264 with 10 homers and 36 RBIs in 73 games with the Mets this season.
