Actor Clint Eastwood is best known for his portrayal of tobaccochewing gunslingers in 1960s spaghetti westerns such as A Fistfull of Dollars, the Dirty Harry films of the 1970s, and his more recent directorial successes including American Sniper.

But the film that broadened his appeal as an actor beyond the gruff characters he played in his earlier movies was 1971's psychological thriller Play Misty for Me about a jazz-playing radio DJ called Dave stalked by a violent ex-lover.

Clint The film was based on real-life stories - Eastwood knew a DJ on a local jazz station and one of his actress friends had endured the attentions of an obsessive fan.

The film was shot in the seaside town of Monterey in California but its final scene, in which Dave confronts his homicidal ex at the home of his new girlfriend, was filmed at a clifftop house in Carmel. …
