A $1.5 million renovation and re-branding of a Topeka Candlewood Suites hotel was celebrated Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting.

The hotel at 914 S.W. Henderson Road was opened in 2000 as a Candlewood Suites, but in recent years it changed owners and became a Studio 6 property, said general manager Steve Cridlebaugh.

But the current owners, KMG Hotels of Kansas City, Mo., purchased the hotel in 2016 and went about re-branding it as a Candlewood Suites facility, he said.

KMG, which is owned by Jay Koshiya and Sanjay Koshiya, spent $2.5 million to renovate the facility, Cridlebaugh said.

"They did a complete ground-up renovation of the property," he said. "They changed the lobby, all the furniture, fixtures, equipment, everything has just been completely redone. We're very proud of the way it turned out. …
